Information about activation, troubleshooting and general use of Flare trackers.
ACTIVATION AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
To activate KidFlare you need to download YourFlare mobile app, register the account (if you already do not have one), charge the battery and connect the app with the device to activate SIM card and location features.
Now, open up the package with KidFlare device, USB charging cable, lynard, QR activation code and follow the steps below.
START CHARGING THE BATTERY IN DEVICE
Charge the battery with the USB charging cable. If you have correctly plugged the USB cable, the red light indicator on the device will turn on. You will notice the red illumination. After cca. 2 hours of charging the battery will be full and the indicator will turn off. In the mean time...
DOWNLOAD YOURFLARE MOBILE APP
If you have not already, download our free mobile app YourFlare. You can do that by scanning the QR code on the package or fetch it manually at Google Play or Apple Store.
REGISTER YOURFLARE USER ACCOUNT
Open YourFlare app and create a user account. Confirm it via email (check out the SPAM folder if you can not find it).
PAIR THE TRACKER WITH APP AND CLAIM BONUS SUBSCRIPTION PERIOD
After creating user account AND after the battery is full, turn on the device by holding the button for two seconds. You can now pair the device with the help of "ADD DEVICE" feature at the bottom right hand side of the main screen. Scan the activation QR code you will find within the package (if it doesn't work, make sure the camera allows access to yourflare app). Usually you will have to wait up to 10 minutes, but this time might extend to 24 hours due to the SIM activation process. Do not worry, close the app, and at the time of activation, you will receive a notification.
FIRST LOCATION ACQUISITION
It might not be necessary, but there are some areas with poor mobile and GPS connection, so just in case, after activation is done, step outside of the building with the device to establish a better connection.
SHARE THE DEVICE
After the device activation is completed, you can share access with other guardians, such as other parent or grandparents. To do so, swipe up the device image on the bottom part of the main screen to see DEVICE INFO pop up and choose share option on the bottom right hand side.
GET TO KNOW FLARE FEATURES
Now you can set up friendly geofence zones, upload a cute image of the kid to customize the experience and get to know pretty cool options in there.
ACTIVATING AND INTEGRATING BIKEFLARE
To activate and install BikeFlare VISIO please follow the steps below or visit BIKEFLARE USER GUIDE section for a visual explanation. In the first instance you will have to: 1.integrate tracking and battery modules inside of handle bar, 2. fill up the battery and finally 3. connect the device with yourflare app and activate the SIM card. You can also check out bikeflare user guide for visual assistance.
You will find tracker module, battery module, USB-C to USB-C connecting cable, Bike wire tool, Drag tool, zip-ties, O-rings of different thicknesses, USB-C to USB-A charging cable and QR activation code (within the box).
INSTALL - Modules fit
Find out which O-ring thickness is best fit for your handlebar. - Remove the grips. - Test the module fit without O-rings, by sliding it into the handlebar. Take it out. - Now find the best fitting O-ring. You do not need to insert it in completely, halfway is enough. - If you are satisfied, take it out and put the same O-rings onto the other module.
INSTALL - Prepare connection cable
Connection cable has to cover a wide range of handlebars sizes. In most cases you will have to make it shorter. Measure it and use zip ties if needed to make it cca. 4-6 cm shorter than the handlebar. This will make sure the cable will not crumple and make it difficult to insert the modules. - Measure the lenght of handlebar. - Notice how much shorter it needs to be. Aim for cca. 2-3 cm shorter than handlebar on each side (4-6 cm in total). - Use zip ties to fold the cable in its mid part as much as needed and cut off zip tie residue.
INSTALL - Final integration
Now we know which O-rings to use and we have our connection cable prepared. Now we have to finish the integration. - Use the bike cable drag tool to insert the now already prepared connection cable into the handlebar. - Connect one of the modules and push it halfway in. - Drag out the connection cable on the other side as well. Remove the tool. - Connect the second module on the other side and push both in completely. - Start charging the battery module with USB-C to USB-A cable. - BikeFlare VISIO is now ready for activation!

It might not be necessary, but there are some areas with poor mobile and GPS connection, so just in case, after activation is done, step outside of the building with the bike to establish a better connection. FLARE TRACKER CAN NOT ACQUIRE A LOCATION
If it is your first use after the pairing you might have to step outside. Many factors affect the location acquisition, if you are located inside the building it might be harder to get any GPS signal that is why we are using additional technologies to receive the signal. So, if you are inside the building it is not guaranteed that you will receive any location. However, your device will send you a location once it is available.
The camera doesn’t open when pairing
Make sure you provide camera permission to the app. To do so go to your phone’s settings:
On iOS: search for the yourflare app and click on it then switch the Camera toggle. On Android: find Apps control and choose yourflare then enable the Camera access. THE BIKEFLARE MODULES DO NOT FIT Modules are too thin: We use O-rings to tighten the fit of our modules. To fit it in better, change the O-rings to a bigger size or use something to tighten the modules. Modules are too thick: First of all, try to use smaller o-rings or even use them without them. If you have carbon fiber handlebars, you might have to grind them, since handlebars made from that material are not smooth on the inside. When pairing app returns that this device is already in use by another user
In this case, make sure that the previous owner of the device has unpaired from the account. If you are facing this issue with a new device let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org .This might occur if the user gives his tracker to a colleague.
Flare trackers are GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices that communicate with YourFlare mobile application via a wide range of mobile network technologies (2G, LTE-M). They are made for the purpose of security locating and tracking children and bicycles.
YourFlare is a free mobile app made for Android and iOS. It connects to all Flare devices. Unlimited number of devices can be connected and managed from a single app.
WHY DO FLARE DEVICES NEED A SUBSCRIPTION PLAN?
Flare trackers are mobile devices and as such they need mobile connection to operate. Pre-integrated SIM cards connect to mobile networks around most of the world, but please make sure ahead of purchase that your country is covered. See our coverage map.
What is the benefit of using so many mobile connection technologies?
It enables widest possible coverage and as such best tracking also in areas where the mobile base network is either old or new (e.g. 2G, LTE-M). When available, we use LTE-M, the latest mobile network technology for low-power IoT devices (LPWAN) which continues to be developed alongside 5G and uses significantly less power than older technologies or even regular 4G. However, if LTE-M isn't available in your area, we can switch to using the older 2G network, which is available virtually everywhere around the world.
What is the range / distance over which the tracker works?
Flare trackers connect to mobile networks, hence they work in all areas covered by mobile networks. By default Flare locators operate within the country of purchase. If you intend to use a tracker in other countries you need to purchase a travel/roaming upgrade. Please see the coverage list to make sure the device can operate in the intended region of use.
Why does FLARE use GPS, WI-Fi and Bluetooth for tracking?
Because it allows us to have the best location accuracy. GPS is intended for outdoor environments. Wi-Fi helps with indoor locations as well as improves accuracy of GPS in urban areas. Bluetooth is used for additional accuracy in indoor areas and it enables features such as Bluetooth Fence, Bluetooth finder or instant ARM/DISARM for BikeFlare VISIO.
What is the difference between FLARE trackers and Bluetooth trackers?
Bluetooth trackers are intended for short range locating and they work only near your mobile device, as soon as you get far away from them location stops being updated. GPS trackers such as Flare are usually totally self reliant and need only mobile/cell service.
What is the difference between FLARE and Apple Air Tag (and other bluetooth locators)?
It is about different core technology used. Apple Air Tag is intended to find random items within the bluetooth range which is augmented by apple device network. As such it is not reliable for wide area tracking and tracking of kids in particular. After all Apple itself states Apple Air Tag is not intended for locating children.
What countries does it work at?
By default Flare trackers are operational only within your country! When traveling make sure to purchase Travel/Roaming features! See our coverage list below to make sure your country and travel areas are covered.

Both app users as well as tracking data is protected. We follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation standard. All data protocols are secure and aligned to EU standards including GDPR! Our devices use end-to-end encryption to secure the communication between themselves and the server. There is no personal data stored on a tracker itself, so whoever can get their hands on, won’t find any personal information
When do I need a FLARE subscription?
All of our devices have three months of free subscription included in the price. During the device activation process you will choose the best fitting subscription which will become active after the free use period. You can always change it in YourFlare app settings.
HOW DO I PURCHASE A FLARE SUBSCRIPTION?
Purchase is done via yourflare app settings in the subscription section. However during the activation you will choose your default subscription, which will become active after the initial free period. You can always edit your preference in yourflare settings - subscriptions.
How do I freeze FLARE subscription?
All our users can freeze their subscription once a year for a two month period. To do so go to settings, subscriptions and click a Freeze subscription button! Please note, you can not freeze a one month subscription!
WHERE CAN I MANAGE FLARE SUBSCRIPTION PLANS?
Subscriptions (payments, freeze subscription) can be done in the settings section of YourFlare app.
What features are included in the subscription price and which are additionally charged?

Can a SIM card get suspended?
Yes. If the owner does not purchase a subscription, Flare trackers will operate in limited functionality for one month (basic locating available) after your subscription ends. After this period the SIM card will get suspended. It will be possible to reactivate the tracker at any point later for a charge of 20€. Client needs to send a request and the tracker to our HQ. Please note that every Flare device with active 12 or 24 month subscription can be frozen for two months a year.
What if I do not pay for a subscription?
Flare tracker will work in its limited operation mode for an additional month after subscription expires. In that time you will have access to the View location feature. After that period, the SIM card is suspended. It can be reactivated, by installing a new SIM card. Reinstallation and activation of SIM card 20€ charge applies.
Are there any activation fees?
No, activation is free of charge!

How do I create an account?
Download YourFlare mobile app on Google Play or Apple Store. Create an account with a username.
How do I EDIT MY account INFO?
You can do it within YourFlare app in settings.
I FORGOT MY PASSWORD, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Reset the password when logging in YourFlare mobile app. Type your email address you have used for registration and you will receive a “reset password” email.
How do I activate and pair the device?
Open YourFlare mobile app, and click on the add new device + icon on bottom right corner. Scan the QR code within the package. This will send us a request for SIM activation. When the device activates you will receive notification on your mobile.
What is our return policy?
All of our clients can return devices in 14 days after the reception.
How do I return my product?
Send email about your intention to email@example.com
Securely pack the device and send it to our address: YFLab d.o.o, ATTN: Return item, Dunajska cesta 5, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia We will transfer the funds as soon as we confirm the product is not damaged.
How long does it take to activate the device after a request is sent?
Anywhere between 5 min - 24h, due to the process of SIM card activation.
Why did I have to give all these permissions at onboarding?
This will make sure of smooth running of YourFlare application, among other notifications will not be blocked or relegated to low priority status and received late.
Why do I get some notifications later?
Mobile phone operating systems have their own cycles and operations priorities. Hence, sometimes notifications can be pushed a bit later, based on prioritization logic of the OS.
What does THE last connection and last location MEAN?
Last connection is the time when the Flare tracker made its last connection with the mobile network.
Last location is the time when the Flare tracker was able to deliver an accurate location. Sometimes within buildings location is impossible to retrieve.
How does “pick me up” work?
After the kid presses the button twice Flaretracker immediately sends notification to parent, and after it collects all data about location will send exact location to YourFlare app.
After the kid presses the button five times (like iPhone SOS), Flare tracker immediately sends an emergency notification to a parent, and after it collects all data about location it will send additional exact location to YourFlare app. In this case you will receive SOUND ALERT even if your phone is in SILENT MODE!
HOW DO WE PRESERVE BATTERY IN KIDFLARE AND BIKEFLARE DEVICES?
To preserve battery, KidFlare trackers sleep most of the time! They use smart wake up cycles gathering data every 5-60 minutes and sending it to YourFlare. Devices extend cycles intelligently when in friendly areas, when not moving or during night times.
Similarly as KidFlare, BikeFlare is also sleeping at most times, even when in ARM mode. The idea is to have minimal charge cycles and as full battery as possible in case of emergency! More info in FLARE GUIDE.
HOW TO ACT WHEN BIKEFLARE ALARM NOTIFICATION COMES?
Do not worry, as you have a potent tool at your disposal which has just detected motion/acceleration and will by its default status continue to update location every 5 minutes.
Depending on your ARM preset: 1. ARM without a sound alarm or, 2. ARM with sound alarm Your alarm procedure will give you some options you can utilize depending on the situation (e.g. you are in vicinity; you want to see where the bike will be taken to; you want to scare off the thief, etc.). In both cases you can turn on/off sound alarm whenever you want. For example, when close to the location or when police officers are at the location. Live tracking: You can start live tracking, as in this mode location updates every few seconds. This is a useful feature, but we advise smart use of it, as it consumes much more power (ca. 5% per hour) than default 5 minute tracking!
Open YourFlare mobile application and click ARM or ARM WITH SOUND ALARM.
When alert notification comes, YourFlare app will ask you what to do next? Do you want a sound alarm to initiate? Do you want to start real time tracking?
Works when BikeFlare is in its default "ACTIVE" mode. If you set up a geofence zone around your home (other relevant locations), you will get notification whenever the bicycle leaves the area!
Keeping your FLARE GPS tracker and app up-to-date
All updates are automatic and will occur only when connected to Wi-Fi. When an update occurs, you will receive a notification.
HOW CAN I TURN OFF/ON FLARE GPS TRACKER
Flare trackers are ON whenever there is any power in the battery.
They can be switched off only by Flare admin.
What is the difference between default and real time tracking?
Default tracking loops are 5 min up to 60 min for KidFlare and 5 min up to 12h for BikeFlare. We use intelligent principles to minimize power consumption. More in user guides.
Real time tracking loops are working with few second cycles.
How can I share my tracker with another person?
Use share the device option you can find on the bottom right hand side of the DEVICE INFO screen in YourFlare app. Device info screen is accessible by swiping up the device icon on the bottom part of the main screen. Feature is intended for guardians only.
Can I track children and bicycles from the same application?
Yes. YourFlare can host any mix and any number of Flare devices.
How can I extend the battery life of my tracker?
Flare devices are made to save battery. You can prolong that time by limiting use of REAL TIME TRACKING and additionally lengthening the cycles in settings (coming soon). In general, Flare trackers consume less power if they do not move.
Is the FLARE GPS waterproof?
Yes. Our trackers are made to survive regular daily use including heavy rain.
wHAT IS WARRANTY FOR flare TRACKERS?
Flare trackers have a two year limited warranty (one year on battery)!
how accurate are flare TRACKERS?
Flare GPS tracker and our mobile app will always provide you with the most accurate position available mainly based on GPS/Galileo/GLONASS/BeiDou technology.
GPS average accuracy is about 8 meters in best conditions. This is the reason why there may be a small discrepancy between the actual position of the child or item and the reported GPS position in the yourflare. For best accuracy have Wi-Fi, bluetooth and GPS location services simply turned on. Flare trackers can use bluetooth and Wi-Fi signal when GPS signals are not immediately available to the tracker (e.g. indoors). FLARE NETWORK COVERAGE
